J.P.'s pre-production process is almost always rooted in character. Since he puts a lot of focus into his narrative work, J.P. can't help but be informed by that process of storytelling and bringing characters to life–whether it's a narrative project, a commercial, a music video, or any other video project. When J.P. talks about character, that can also mean the details of the setting, the mission statement of a brand, or the purpose of an item and how it can affect a user's every day life. When he makes his decisions and begins mapping out the visual shot list for a project, he always returns to that question: what are the characteristics of our subject, and how can we highlight the themes that we are hoping to get across?
